2011 Open Show
The Club’s Open Show will be held on Saturday 10th September at the Cochrane Hall, Alva. Weather permitting the show will be held outside.
Our judge will be Lorraine Gormley (Baadswood)
My love of our wonderful breed started from a very early age and I always promised myself that I would one day have the pleasure of owning one or two! So in 1977 I bought my first Dane from Sheila Edmonds of the Sherain Kennel out of her American Import, Lincoln’s Winstead Von Raseac. We tried the show circuit for a while, But Shah didn’t enjoy it so stepped out of the ring for a few years and simply enjoyed my dogs – a few more Dane friends joined us along the way! In 1992 I bought a 9 months old puppy from Gary Hooker of the well-known Garsak Kennel, namely Garsak Sir Donald of Baadswood. Donald was already campaigned by Gary and I was keen to get back into the ring again, it seemed the perfect partnership, and it certainly was! Not only was Donald an absolute gentleman and a dream to own, I had the pleasure of enjoying numerous Championship show wins with him, culminating in his RCC at The Great Dane Club Champ Show in 1994 and his RCC at Crufts in 1995.
I have continued showing over the years and enjoyed a lot of success with a grandson of Donald, Sparrowcroft Suits You Sir at Baadswood (Chester). More recently I campaigned my male Tantallon Celtic Advocate at Baadswood (Baxter) and enjoyed a very successful show career with him up until he retired from the ring a couple of years ago.
I have bred 4 litters and ran my own boarding kennels in 1995 for 4 years. I was also a committee member/trainer of my local ringcraft club for a number of years, a role I enjoyed very much as it enabled me to understand a variety of breed standards and the “hands on” experience was invaluable too.
This will be my fourth judging appointment of our wonderful breed, the last being in 2008, so I am really looking forward to seeing you and yours on the day!
